VST support in Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 on Windows Vista

As mentioned in other articles, I am running my copy of Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 on Windows Vista. If you're wondering whether this set up has VST support, the short answer is "yes".

Cakewalk adds VST support by means of an adapter. You run the adapter program separately from the sequencer to register a VST, which then appears in your FX & soft synth menu in Cakewalk. I have found that I have to run the adapter as administrator, otherwise it hangs. But apart from that, everything has run smoothly.

The VST instruments I have tested are EZDrummer and a free compressor called Classic Compressor. These work perfectly for me.
